Itinerary
Here you can see the programme for the tour.
Upon arrival in Vietri you will check in at the hotel, where the bikes await you. Depending on the arrival time, an evening stroll through the small town's historical center, is possible before dinner is served in the restaurant of the hotel. Should you arrive early, you may want to take your bicycles for a short ride to the nearby fishermen’s village of Cetara sul Mare.
Note: The first night is either in Cetara or Vietri.
Hotel (exampel): Hotel La Lucertola
On the first cycle tour, you'll explore the eastern part of the Amalfi Coast, following the beautiful, winding coastal road that many call "the most beautiful route in the world". The Amalfi Coast 'officially' starts at the charming village of Vietri sul Mare, known for its colourful table pottery. Other villages to explore include the idyllic village of Cetara, named after the Roman 'cetus'. Take time for a coffee or cappuccino at the small bar near the village's small harbour, overlooking the colourful fishing boats moored on the white sandy beach.
Then it's back up to Capo d'Orso, the highest point on the road, with a wonderful view of the entire Amalfi Coast and Capri. After admiring the view, it's downhill along a beautiful winding road through lemon groves, forests and dramatic cliffs until you arrive in Maiori, the largest town on the coast. A short stretch around the headland brings you to Minori with its quaint centre and beautiful beach boulevard. Continue with a short climb towards Castiglione, once part of the defence system of the Amalfi Republic. If you didn't visit the town the day before, here you have the choice of cycling up to wonderful Ravello, which is quite a climb (but a relatively easy ride with your e-bike!), or continuing on to Amalfi. Once you've passed Castiglione, cycle through the wonderful little town of Atrani with its whitewashed houses. Here you should stop for a drink in the town's fantastic square before cycling the last few kilometres back to Amalfi.
Hotel (exampel): Hotel Lidomare
While on the first cycling day you mainly cycled along the coast, today will be dedicated to the lesser-known but equally beautiful inland area. You'll cycle from Amalfi to Ravello and Tramonti, up into the mountains and then back to Amalfi along the coast again.
Once you've left Amalfi, turn inland at Castiglione and start driving up the steep, winding road along the narrow valley where the river Dragone runs and under the cliffs of Ravello. It's quite a climb, but a relatively easy ride on an e-bike! After an optional detour to the pretty medieval villages of Pontone, Minuta and Scala, you'll arrive in Ravello, where you park your bike for a stroll through the village. Ravello is one of the highlights of the Amalfi Coast and has many medieval monuments, but is above all famous for its grand villas with stunning gardens and fantastic views of the Amalfi Coast.
After an extensive visit, continue inland through some surprisingly wild landscapes towards Tramonti, where you can find a place for lunch. From Tramonti, it's down a winding road towards the Amalfi Coast again. You arrive in Maiori with its wide seafront boulevard. After a short stop for a drink or perhaps a swim, you drive back to Amalfi. You may also have time to enjoy a lemon cake in Minori or a beer in the square in Atrani. Today you can take a little more time to visit Ravello, see the magnificent gardens and discover the beautiful little medieval villages of Pontone, Minuta and Scala tucked away in the hills.
Hotel (exampel): Hotel Lidomare
Today you'll embark on the second part of the dramatic 'Strada Amalfiana', which runs from Amalfi to Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, perched on the peninsula's ridge overlooking both the Amalfi and Sorrento coasts. Start with the short cycle ride through Praiano to Positano, the most picturesque and also most mundane towns on the coast. Just outside Amalfi you'll pass the 'Grotta Azzurra' and the deep Furore fjord, whose fishermen's huts cling to the cliffs. On arrival in Positano, make sure to cycle down into town towards the beach, from where you can explore the town on foot (most of the town's small streets are made up of stairs). On the other side of Positano, the coastline becomes more rugged and there's a steep climb to the Colli di San Pitro, beautifully situated on the ridge that separates the Amalfi Coast from the rest of the Sorrento Peninsula. A short, flat stretch leads to your hotel in Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoy a hearty dinner in the hotel restaurant. Stay at an agriturismo in Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi.
Dinner at the Agriturismo is included today.
Hotel (exampel): Agriturismo Le Tore
Today you'll cycle all the way to the tip of the Sorrento peninsula. On the first stretch of road after leaving Sant'Agata this morning, you'll fully understand why its full name is Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi: not only can you admire the wonderful panorama of the southern coast towards Capri, but also enjoy the view of Sorrento and the Bay of Naples, dominated by Mount Vesuvius. You now cycle on the plateau high above the coast towards the far end of the peninsula, Punta Campanella. From the last village (actually called 'Termini') you have a fantastic view of Capri. You should cycle up to the small chapel of San Costanzo, just above the village, from where you can enjoy the 360-degree view! For those who want to, there's also the option to cycle down to the lovely beach of Marina del Cantone (and back up again), perhaps with a short visit to the Baia di Ieranto nature reserve. Then head back along the northern coast with wonderful views of the Bay of Naples through the charming village of Massa Lubrense. It is recommended to cycle down to the seaside resort of Sorrento, perched on high vertical limestone cliffs above the sea, and visit the old town with its wonderful gardens and villas. After the visit, turn inland again and climb slowly up to Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, back to your hotel or agriturismo. In the evening, you can choose to have dinner at your accommodation again, or walk or cycle into town for dinner at a local restaurant.
