The GR10 goes all the way across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean - a whole 850 kilometres! This magnificent adventure offers all nature lovers and hikers the opportunity to see the well-preserved and wonderful areas of the great mountains and at the same time realise a dream: to walk from one sea to another, through deep valleys, mountain villages, along lakes and over mountain peaks.
Below you can see all the stages of the tour and we will organise everything for you so that you are able to walk the route on your own with our route descriptions, maps and other material. We have divided the route into 8 sections of 7 days/6 nights and the GR10 starts in Hendaye in the Basque Country and ends in Banyuls sur Mer in Catalonia.
Let us organise the trip for you and you can be sure that everything fits and that you get the best tips along the way.
The sections of the GR10
The GR10 starts at the Atlantic Ocean and ends at the Mediterranean Sea. We have divided the route into eight sections as follows:
- Section 1: Hendaye to St. Jean Pied de Port (7 days/6 nights - 99km hike)
- Section 2: St. Jean Pied de Port to Etsaut (7 days/6 nights - 120km hike)
- Section 3: Etsaut to Cauterets (7 days/6 nights - 81km hiking)
- Section 4: Cauterets to Luchon (7 days/6 nights - 115km hiking)
- Section 5: Luchon to Aulus les Bains (7 days/6 nights - 134km hiking)
- Section 6: Aulus les Bains to Mérens (7 days/6 nights - 89km hiking)
- Section 7: Mérens to Vernet les Bains (7 days/6 nights - 85km hiking)
- Section 8: Vernet les Bains to Banyuls sur Mer (7 days/6 nights - 109km hiking)
Difficulty of the GR10
All the sections of the GR10 have a difficulty level of 3-4. These are real mountain hikes in good places. To enjoy the walk we recommend that you are in good shape and preferably have experience of mountain walking. It is necessary to have hiking boots and preferably also hiking poles.
Accommodation on the GR10
There are no hotels all along the GR10 and therefore on several sections there are places where the only option is to stay in a dormitory. On all trips we have upgrade options where you can choose to sleep in double rooms wherever possible. Because some places are dormitory, you will need to bring a sheet/ sleeping bag on all sections. Blankets are always provided in the dormitories, so a sheet bag will suffice - and a sleeping bag is of course fine too.
Luggage transfer on the GR10
Our walking holidays always include luggage transport and this is of course also included on the GR10. That said, there are a few days during the trip when luggage transport is simply not possible. Therefore, there will be days on some of the trips when you will have to pack for the next day and carry what you need up to the mountain huts yourself. These include a change of clothes, toiletries and a bed/sleeping bag.
You are very welcome to contact us if you want to know more about the GR10.
