More about the route
Much of the route is on gravel roads and paths. This includes established forest trails as well as rocky paths where you have to navigate around stones and rocks. Some paths will also be paved and in urban areas there will be asphalt. We recommend good shoes with a firm, moulded bottom.
The tour is level 2 and the general walking time is 4-6 hours. Some descents cover many vertical metres and approach level 3.
Itinerary
Here you can see the programme for the week.
You'll arrive in the mountain town of Corte and check into your hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, take a stroll through the town and enjoy the narrow cobbled streets of the old town with cosy cafés or visit the impressive rock citadel that rises high above the town. From up here, you'll enjoy stunning views of Corte and the surrounding mountains.
You'll stay in a comfortable 2* hotel in Corte with breakfast included.

Corte is located between two stunning gorges - Tavignano and Restonica. In the Tavignano gorge there is a hiking route along an ancient mule track, a route used over time by shepherds to get to the isolated Niolu region, and it's a fantastic hike. Steep cliffs rise above the rushing river and countless waterholes and natural pools invite you for a cooling dip.
You'll spend the night back in Corte with breakfast included.

The day starts with a short transfer to the beginning of today's hike in Scala di Santa Regina. This trail is also an ancient transhumance path used by shepherds to move their animals from the lowlands to the highlands of the Niolu Valley. You pass a mountain lake and continue to the idyllic village of Calacuccia.
You'll spend the night on the outskirts of Calaccuia and dinner will be served at a local restaurant that uses the best seasonal local produce.

From Calacuccia there is a morning transfer to Col de Vergio. Col de Vergio is, as the word suggests, a high mountain pass and the views are majestic with high peaks rising above you. The path descends through the pine trees of the Aïtone forest and on to the outskirts of Evisa. You'll pass natural rock pools and waterholes, and possibly meet the free-range pigs in the chestnut forest before arriving at the village of Evisa.
This is a lively mountain village with a cosy atmosphere.
You'll stay at an inn-hotel in town, with breakfast and dinner included

Today you have the option to relax in Evisa or go on a hike that follows part of the path known as the Mare e Monti ( Sea and Mountains) route. The walk goes between two villages and takes you through the surrounding chestnut forests and into lush maki terrain. You will arrive at the abandoned village of Tassu, a small rustic and authentic gem. From here you'll continue to the village of Marignana, located directly on the opposite side of the valley from Evisa. It's a nice hike that gives you an insight into life in mountain villages in Corsica.
You'll stay overnight in Evisa again with breakfast and dinner included.

It's canyon hiking time! The path zigzags down through the scenic Spelunca Gorge. Cross the Golo River on the rustic, high-arched Genoese bridge, an important part of the area's cultural heritage. Then walk along a balcony path across the river towards Ota, a mountain village with a Mediterranean atmosphere. Here you can take a break and enjoy a bite to eat or drink. You'll then head down to the coast at the Bay of Porto.
This stage can be shortened with a transfer from Ota to Porto, leaving time for a possible boat trip to see the Scandola Reserve.
You'll spend the night in Porto with breakfast included.

This dramatic coastline is classified by UNESCO. From Porto beach, climb into the Calanques de Piana - an area of natural rocky gorges and coves along the Mediterranean coast. You'll pass red granite cliffs standing like needles, twisted shapes in the rocky landscape interspersed with sporadic pine trees. The coastal walk follows an old mule track and offers spectacular views of the raw Corsican nature.
You'll arrive in the West Corsican coastal town of Piana, with narrow quaint streets, cosy cafés and traditional Corsican architecture.
You'll stay in a cosy family-run 2* hotel in the heart of Piana.
