Itinerary
Here you can see the program for the trip
It doesn’t matter at what time you arrive. We will be waiting for you at the airport in Marrakech. We then transfer you to the hotel in the centre of the city. While all the participants arrive, you can spend the afternoon visiting Marrakech.
Hotel (exampel): Riad Omar
In the morning we leave Marrakech in our private minibus. After admiring the Moroccan landscape awhile, we arrive at the point where our trek begins. There we meet the mules and the cook who will make our life much easier these coming days. We cross the town of Imioughlad and we begin the ascent towards the first mountain pass of the trek. From the pass, at 2000 m above sea level, we have precious views of the regions of Tigouga, Taroudant, and of the Angour mountains to the north. After lunch, we arrive at the village of Tahliouine village where we spend the night at a berber lodge.
Accomodation: Cabin in the mountains
We start the day early to avoid the sun during the ascent of a mountain pass. After reaching the Teouti pass, at 2400m, we descend towards the town of Assaka. After lunch our path climbs again until we reach the village of Tizgi, where we set up camp.
Accomodation: Cabin in the mountains
Today we hike along beautiful, wild landscapes of the Toubkal range. We'll find flocks of cattle with their Berber shepherds. After the morning ascent, we descend to the valley of the river Azaden, where we eat. With renewed strength, in the evening we climb to the campsite of Azib Tamsoult, to 2250m.
Accomodation: Cabin in the mountains
Today is an intense day, in which we significantly increase the average altitude of the trek. Ahead of us we have the demanding ascent to the Aguelzim pass at 3450 m. The ascent is long but progressive. Once on the pass we will be able to admire the summit of Toubkal. We then descend towards the Toubkal base camp, at 3200m.
Accomodation: Toubkal Refuge (dorm)
Today is the big day. With four days of walking in the Toubkal National Park, the possibilities we have of successfully reaching the summit (4.167m) are high. We start the day early, at daybreak, to avoid the sun as much as possible during the ascent. After 3 hours of effort, we reach the top of North Africa. All the effort pays off with the impressive views we have. After enjoying this moment, we start the descent to the base camp. There we eat and then we continue the descent towards the village of Imlil, where we spent the night. (B,L,D)
Accomodation: Riad in Imlil
After breakfast, transfer back to Marrakech. Check in at your Riad. You have the rest of the day to explore the wonderful city. (B)
Accomodation: Riad Omar
Now the journey is over. You'll be driven to the airport in time to catch your flight. We can arrange extra nights in Marrakech if you fancy more.

In Marrakech, you'll spend the night in a riad, a cosy tourist class hotel where breakfast is included. On the trek itself, you'll stay in guesthouses with shared bathroom facilities. The guesthouses on the trek are very basic, so don't expect anything resembling a hotel. In the guesthouses you will have private rooms, but in Toubkal Basecamp everyone stays in a dormitory as it's the only option.
If you're on a winter trek, it's important to note that the huts on the road are not heated, which puts requirements on your sleeping bag (see below under ‘equipment’).
In Marrakech, breakfast is included, but you'll need to buy the other meals yourself. On the trek, all meals are included and in guesthouses you can buy soft drinks. The kitchen team will provide drinking water and tea/coffee.
A typical trekking day begins with a wake-up call between 06:00 - 06:30. After getting dressed and having breakfast, you pack your luggage and start trekking at around 08:00. At around 12.00, you'll have a nice long lunch break before continuing on your afternoon hike. You'll arrive at your accommodation in the late afternoon.
This trip has a difficulty level of 3-4, which means that most hiking days on the tour are level 3 and a few are level 4.
Grade 3
Hiking in mountainous terrain with longer ascents and descents. You will hike 5-7 hours a day. Requires generally good fitness and health, but no special technical skills or prior experience. Requires good shoes, such as trekking or mountain boots.
Grade 4
Demanding hiking with daily marches of 6-8 hours, often in difficult terrain at higher altitudes. There can be longer ascents of up to 1,000 meters. Requires good physical condition, endurance, and knees and ankles capable of enduring prolonged descents. You need to be in good health and preferably have hiking experience. Requires good hiking boots and regular outdoor clothing. There can be significant temperature differences.
Read more about our grading system here.
When booking the tour, you will receive our practical information and packing list for the hiking ascent of Mount Toubkal.
Please note that when booking the tour from November to April it may be relevant to use crampons and ice axes.
These can be hired from the local guide.
Price
Crampons 20€ per pair
Ice axe 15€ per piece
Sleeping bag
It is also possible to rent a sleeping bag on the tour. It costs €20 for the whole week. If you're on a winter trek, it would be ideal to have a sleeping bag that can handle -20 degrees and you'll need to bring your own. The sleeping bags you can rent locally can handle down to minus seven degrees, so you will need to sleep with warm clothes in the sleeping bag.
We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.
Before taking out insurance, you should check whether you are already covered by travel or cancellation insurance through your home insurance company, credit card or similar - please note that there may be differences in insurance coverage.
Some nationalities do not need to apply for a visa before visiting Morocco. We ask you to check if you need to apply for a visa here.
We recommend checking with your health authorities or contacting your local doctor well in advance of departure to get updated information on relevant and possibly required vaccinations.
After booking this trip, you get access to various discount schemes.
Mount Toubkal can be climbed all year round, even in winter. Between November and April it is cool in the lower regions with daytime temperatures of 10-15 degrees centigrade. The temperature drops as you gain altitude and there is snow on the summit. From March the temperature rises and from May to October the daytime temperature reaches 20-25 degrees, with over 30 degrees in the lower regions during the height of summer.
