Bering's very best of Jordan, 11 days

Petra, Wadi Rum, The Dead Sea and Diving in the Red Sea

11 Days / 10 Nights
Easy

In Jordan you'll find some of the Red Sea's most unspoilt coral and several man-made dive sites (including a tank, a shipwreck, coral plantation areas and more). On this trip, you'll get to dive at the new dive spots in Jordan, such as: C-130 Hercules and Tristar.

In addition to diving, you will also experience the magical Petra, the impressive Wadi Rum desert, floating in the Dead Sea and the charming city of Aqaba which, due to its rich history, offers countless attractions.

Aqaba is 1001 nights of adventure combined with the 21st century. The city is a historical gem where many of the world's great personalities (including those from the 1001 Arabian Nights) have lived - including T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and Sinbad the Navigator to name but a few. If you're so inclined, there are also plenty of opportunities to go shopping in the old part of the city. This is of course done in true Arabian style with markets and street vendors selling everything from souvenirs to everyday items. A trip to the Souk is definitely an experience not to be missed.

From a culinary point of view, Aqaba is unique. The city's restaurants use local ingredients such as fresh seafood and delicious lamb. All prepared in the traditional Arabic way as well as the more European-inspired cuisine.

We have included 10 dives on this trip, consisting of four shore dives and six boat dives.

Itinerary

See the day-by-day itinerary below.

You'll arrive at Amman airport where you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. After arrival, you'll have the rest of the day to explore the city.

Hotel (example): Sandy Palace Hotel

After breakfast at the hotel, you'll be picked up and driven to the ancient city of Petra. You'll take a guided tour of Petra (English-speaking guide) to see the city, often described as the eighth wonder of the world. It is arguably Jordan's most significant heritage site and one of the most visited places in Jordan. The city was carved out of the rocks by the Nabataea people who populated Jordan 2000 years ago. Petra was a strategic hub for ancient trade routes connecting Rome, Greece, China, India and Egypt. You'll take the magnificent entrance to the city (the Siq), arriving through the 1km-long gorge that you've probably seen in the Indiana Jones The Last Crusade film. You'll see the treasury, royal tombs, courthouse, temples, amphitheatre and church.

After the tour of Petra, you'll spend the night at your neighbouring hotel.

Hotel (example): La Maison Hotel

After breakfast at the hotel, you'll be picked up and driven to Wadi Rum. Your tour begins with a two-hour jeep tour of the desert. Wadi Rum is also known as the ‘Valley of the Moon’ and you'll meet Bedouins who still live according to ancient customs. You can experience climbing, hiking and see caves with 4000-year-old drawings. You'll stay at the Bedouin camp Rahayeb Camp and in the evening, you can enjoy the impressive starry sky.

Overnight stay: Rahayeb Camp

After breakfast and a morning at the camp, you'll be driven to Aqaba and check back into your hotel. You'll have the rest of the day to relax and digest the experiences of the trip.

After breakfast at the hotel, you'll be picked up and driven out on your first dive in the Red Sea. There are plenty of options and most of the really good dive spots are possible from both the beach and boat. Read about the different dive spots further down this page.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Dead Sea where you will spend the night in a hotel. The Dead Sea is known for its high salinity. The high concentration of salt allows you to float on the surface of the water. It is said that the water and mud of the Dead Sea has therapeutic properties due to its high mineral and salt content.

If you're more adventurous, the area next to the Dead Sea is home to one of the many scenic canyons that are unique to hiker.

The day can be spent in the water or walking around the area.

Now your journey is over. You'll be picked up from your hotel by the Dead Sea and taken to Amman airport. Please note that the flight home may be early in the morning.

Amazing dives

The Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan offers countless dive spots that are out of the ordinary. On this trip you will experience the best sites over 11 days. All dives are with a local dive guide and all dives are from a boat. In addition to diving, you'll experience Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.

Practical information

Here you can get answers to various questions about the trip
Sorry! No FAQs were found. Please try again with a new search term.

It is possible to get a diving licence on this trip. In that case, please note that the included dives are cancelled and replaced by a 3-5 day PADI Open Water course, which includes 4 pool dives and 4 open water dives.

If you want to take a diving certificate on your trip, you can opt for it when you book.

Here you can read our guide to diving certification.

The course is divided into three phases

  • Theory - You learn the basic principles of diving
  • Confined Water dives - You'll make your first dives in a safe environment (e.g. a swimming pool or shallow water). You'll be trained in basic techniques.
  • Open Water dives - You'll make your first four dives in the ocean. Here you use the techniques you learnt in the previous confined water dives.

Upon completion, you'll receive an official PADI Open Water certification that you can use to have amazing diving experiences for the rest of your life anywhere in the world.

In order to take the diving licence, you must have completed this document. The rule is that if you can answer no to everything on page 1, you do not need to see a doctor. If you can answer yes to something, then you need to see a doctor and the doctor needs to complete and sign page 2.

We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.

Before taking out insurance, you should check whether you are already covered by travel or cancellation insurance through your home insurance company, credit card or similar - please note that there may be differences in insurance coverage.
