It is raw, rugged, and at the same time it offers beautiful calm beaches, and a lovely, varied landscape added the impressive hospitality from the local inhabitants. On this cycling tour you go from Portugal’s busy capital, Lisbon to Sagres in the south. You will see everything from pulsating cities to calm fishing hamlets and asphalted roads to gravel roads in the Nature Parks of Portugal.
Portugal is one of those places that you simply become addicted to and on this tour, you will see the best side of Portugal. You can expect lovely cycling routes, great hotels, amazing wines and a nice, relaxed atmosphere everywhere.
In general, the route is slightly hilly with only a few steep climbs, but there are several climbs daily. Great routes on farm tracks and side roads with very little traffic, short sections also on busy roads. For longer stretches you'll also cycle on gravel paths.
You'll arrive at your first hotel in Lisbon, where you'll receive your welcome pack and any rented bikes. Once you've settled into your room, it's time to explore the city and enjoy the glamorous pedestrian streets, history and cultural offerings. It's not difficult to get from the airport to the first hotel, but if you want to be driven, you can book a transfer on the booking form.

A beautiful cycle path takes you along the river Tejo all the way to the harbour. After a short ferry ride across the wide river you reach Seixal and start your cycle tour. You cross the peninsula southward and marvel at the Arrábida nature park with initial impressive rock formations. Breathtaking views over the coastline take turns nearly by the minute with beautiful bays for swimming and sunbathing. Today’s Day Finish is Setúbal, where as early as the 16th century Lisbon aristocracy had palaces and country estates built there.

Now in the Alentejo, a stunning region which is mostly flat. The plains full of wildflowers, sunflowers, vineyards and admirable beaches with crystal clear waters and endless sandy areas. Some of these beaches are among the best ones in the country. The Alentejo villages are characterized by the whitewashed houses and the cities with great charm and rich history. The legacy from past times and civilizations, can be seen in its rich inheritance and it houses impressive castles, Visigothic churches, Roman constructions fragments and even Paleolithic engravings. The prehistoric Alentejo was an active place and currently it is still possible to see numerous megaliths. The traditional cuisine is diverse with meat, fish and seafood, many types of cheese and good Alentejo wines.
The cycling stage starts with a ferry trip through the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, where usually the ferries users are welcomed by the resident population of bottlenose dolphins. A rare phenomenon in the worldwide and unique in Portugal. This biologically rich area has more than 250 avian species that can been seen during your boat trip. Sado River region is also characterized by the number or rice fields under cultivation.
After landing the cycling journey starts in the peninsula of Troia, great beach, beautiful landscape of the Arrábida Hills. The Roman ruins from 1st century can be visited on the way to Sines.

One of the most unspoilt coastal sections in Europe, the Costa Vicentina Nature Park, will enthrall you with a many impressions. Breathtaking views over the Atlantic ocean, fantastic beaches, little harbours and authentic fishing villages entice time and again for a little break. In the evening you enjoy the atmosphere of the coastal town Vila Nova de Mil Fontes. Here again a fantastic sandy beach is right at your feet.

You continue your ride through the marvellous Costa Vicentina Nature Park with its diverse fauna and flora. Impressively high cliffs characterise today’s cycle tour and you can feel the refreshing wind from the Atlantic on your face and all around you. You spend the night in the village Aljezur, situated a few kilometres from the coast and with this also discover the rural architecture of the villages typical for this region. Above the village towers the historic little castle offering a beautiful view over the fertile land.

You experience a unique highlight still on the final stage. You cycle through the special coastal scenery to the cape St. Vincent, the most southwestern tip of Europe with its renowned lighthouse and the ‚Final fried sausage before America‘ – it certainly is a special experience to pose here for a selfie with your bike. There are only a few kilometres left until you reach Sagres. Your final Day Finish with its ample cultural heritage is one of the most significant towns on the Algarve. Particularly spectacular here are the high-rising cliffs framing the idyllic sandy beaches.

The price is based upon two people sharing. It is also possible travel alone in a single room. Simply choose "1 person" in the booking form and it will automatically add the single room surcharge.

On all our cycling holidays it is possible bring your own bike but it also possible to rent a bike for the tour. The bikes you can rent are all perfectly suited for the tour and the local terrain and all bikes are perfectly maintained. If you want to rent a bike on your holiday, then you select this on the booking form.

Roadside assistance
All bikes are equipped with puncture resistant tyres which means that it is virtually impossible to puncture. No rule without exceptions, so should you experience a punctured tyre then you can quickly fix it by using the tools in the service-set. If the damage is greater than a simply puncture then you simply call us and we make sure that your bike is fixed or you will be supplied with a new bike as quickly as possible.
Insurance is included
Insurance against theft and damages are included in the bike rental. Should you have any problems of this nature then all you have to do is to let us know and we will supply a new bike as quickly as possible. Naturally, careless or mischievous behavior is exempt from this.
The flights to/from Lisbon are not included in the price. You can easily find a suitable flight via a flight booking engine such as Momondo or Skyscanner.
We recommend that you fly into Lisbon and return from Faro Airport.

Local transportation
Transfer from Lisbon Airport to the first hotel is easiest to do with a taxi at the airport. The distance is very short and should not cost more than 20 euro.
It is possible to purchase your transfer from the hotel in Sagres to Faro airport on day 8. This is selected on the booking form.
On this tour, you'll stay in 3- and 4-star hotels and breakfast is included in the tour.
Breakfast is included on the tour. It's very easy to find both packed lunches and evening meals in the cities on the route.
Luggage transfer is included on this tour. Upon arrival at the first hotel you will be given luggage tags along with the rest of the welcome package. You fill out the luggage tags and put them on your bags where they will remain for the duration of the tour.
Your luggage is picked up from the hotel lobby around 9am every morning and will arrive at your next hotel at 6pm at the latest (often long before that). If there are any special exceptions to the luggage transfer you will be notified upon arrival.
Luggage transfer includes one bag per guest and the bags can weigh 20kg each.

Immediately after booking this trip, you'll recieve a pre-booking-email where you can get a complete overview of your booking. Once the tour is confirmed you get a confirmation email from us along with practical information about the tour.
One month before departure
You will receive a hotel list and final travel documents.
Upon arrival at the first hotel
You'll receive the welcome pack, which contains everything you need for the trip. There will be route descriptions, maps, luggage tags, specific local vouchers and if you have rented a bike, they will also be handed out at the first hotel. The documents are in English.

This tour has difficulty grade 3.
Grade 3
Longer distances in hilly terrain, often with steep climbs. The distance is usually 65 – 80 km or 40 – 50 miles per day. Requires good shape and health. We highly recommend that you practice on some longer rides before you leave home.
