The route

The Netherlands is perfect for a cycling holiday. The numbered junction network makes navigation easy and the route is completely flat on dedicated asphalt cycle paths or side roads with little traffic. Only when entering and exiting the cities is increased traffic expected. A very easy bike ride that is also suitable for families with children.

Itinerary

See the day-by-day itinerary below.

Today you can explore the extensive canal system, visit the museum district or stroll through winding streets with the narrow houses whose gabled facades are so typical of the cityscape. Wherever you go in Amsterdam, the bike is the best mode of transport. A beer in a good restaurant is the perfect way to end the day.

Take another walk through the Dutch metropolis before starting your bike ride. You'll soon reach Haarlem, which is ideal for a lunch break. In this idyllic city you'll find some of Holland's characteristic windmills and canals. The final stretch takes you to the coast and Zandvoort, where the large sandy beaches tempt you to go for a swim.

Hotel (example): Amsterdam Beach Hotel Zandvoort

Today's stage takes you along the North Sea coast. The lovely seafront promenades will once again tempt you to take a dip in the cool water. In spring, it's worth taking a short detour to Keukenhof, where you can admire more than 7 million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths.

Today's destination is The Hague. Wide sandy beaches, green parks and beautiful dunes characterise this city. Those interested in art and culture will also get their money's worth thanks to the wide range of museums.

Now you will move inland again, away from the coast. On your way you will quickly reach Delft. The university city is famous far beyond its borders for Delft porcelain.

In the Vermeer Centre you can admire works by the world-famous painter Johannes Vermeer. The numerous cafés and restaurants will tempt you to linger. The cycling stage ends in the trendy harbour metropolis of Rotterdam, a paradise for shopping enthusiasts.

Hotel (eksempel): Hotel van Walsum Rotterdam

After breakfast, you'll still have time for a short walk through Rotterdam. You'll be fascinated by the modern architecture. Once you're on your bike, you'll quickly reach the windmills of Kinderdijk.

The 19 impressive buildings are among the most popular postcard motifs in the Netherlands. The famous windmills were built as early as 1740 and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The rest of the tour takes you through the watery and picturesque landscape to Gouda.

Hotel (eksempel): Best Western Plus City Hotel Gouda

The medieval city of Gouda is not only famous for its cheese, but also for its syrup waffles. You can convince yourself of their quality at breakfast! Today's stage takes you into the green heart of the Netherlands.

You will pass through extensive natural landscapes, picturesque villages and large dams. In Utrecht's historic city centre you can end the cycling stage with a refreshing beer. Numerous restaurants and bars invite you to stay a while.

Hotel (example): Hotel Mitland Utrecht

Picturesque parks, canals, historic buildings and many interesting museums await you in Utrecht. Following the course of the river Vecht, your cycling tour continues. The region around this idyllic river offers a lot of culture and history.

The beautiful nature is complemented by a rich gastronomic culture. At the end of the day, you will once again reach the starting point of your cycling tour, the Dutch capital Amsterdam. You certainly won't be bored in the evening!

There's still time for all the things you didn't get to do at the beginning of your trip. Whether it's a canal cruise or a relaxing walk, you can always find peace in the capital.
