Cycling in Brittany - 7 days

7 Days / 6 Nights
Moderate

This tour explores the northern side of the contrasting region of Brittany, which extends like a tongue of land into the Atlantic Ocean in north-west France. The inland is as tranquil, lush and breathtaking as the coast is wild and beautiful.

Driving through the gently undulating terrain, you can admire the characteristic Breton farmhouses with their distinctive granite-framed doors, windows and corners, grazing black and white cows, abundant birdlife and open, airy landscapes. Pretty villages like Dinan and Combourg with interesting stories to tell, including Celtic heritage and religious traditions, and charming fishing villages like Cancale and Cherrueix are jewels in the landscape along your cycle route.

The highlight, however, is the beautifully fortified ‘pirate town’ of Saint-Malo with its panoramic views of the rocky coastline and emerald sea - the coastline lives up to its name: La Côte d'Emeraude (The Emerald Coast). And when you're on these shores, you have to try the seafood and of course the Breton crepes.

The route

The wild and beautiful coastline of whimsical rocky outcrops and enclosed beautiful beaches westwards towards Saint-Malo gives way to kilometres of shallow beaches with wade fishing and oyster and mussel production and further fertile marshland with grazing flocks of sheep further east in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.
