Cycling holiday in Alsace - 5 days

5 Days / 4 Nights
Moderate

Say the name - Alsace - and friendly associations come flooding in: delicious world-renowned white wines, great meals, picturesque villages with half-timbered houses and abundant flower boxes.

Good cycle paths wind through beautiful and lush landscapes with hills and hollows, wide vineyards and kneeling castles on the ridge, via the most beautiful wine villages that lie like pearls on a string along the “wine road”. Starting in Strasbourg, you'll pass through villages like Molsheim, Obernai, Barr, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Colmar and many more. The Alsatians are friendly and helpful, the hotels are carefully selected, and the 3 cycling stages with wine tastings along the way are between 25 and 50 km in relatively easy cycling terrain with a good network of cycle paths.

Bikes are picked up in the morning from our partner at the train station. The road along the Bruche Canal is considered one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Alsace and takes you safely from the center of Strasbourg into the vineyards.

On today's stage you can enjoy charming villages with a typical Alsatian atmosphere such as Molsheim and Obernai.

On paved back roads, far from the traffic noise of the main roads, you cross through the vineyards. Picturesque villages smile at you with their beautiful half-timbered houses and lots of geraniums in many shades of red. Mittelbergheim, Dambach la Ville, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr are all on the list of “France's most beautiful villages”.

In Kaysersberg, the destination of today's stage, Albert Schweitzer was born in 1875, the last French winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The “Wine Route” with lovely villages like Turkheim and Eguisheim completes the postcard impression before reaching Colmar, the wine and culture capital of Alsace. From here comes sculptor Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty, and famous Renaissance painters such as Martin Schoengauer and Mathias Grüneweld.

A visit to the Old Town and the Unterlinden Museum is a must! And maybe a late lunch in the afternoon sun at an outdoor restaurant right on the canal in the Old Town would be perfect?
