In the fishing village of Olhos de Água, there's a fantastic beach where you can take a break. Feel the sea breeze on your face and enjoy the fine sand between your toes. In Vilamoura, you'll pass one of the country's largest marinas before cycling through pine forests towards the Ria Formosa nature park. The nature park frames a fascinating lagoon landscape that is constantly changing due to currents, weather and not least water conditions. The impressive landscape is home to a wealth of birdlife. From there, the Algarve's capital Faro appears in the distance. Discover the famous historic center with its exquisite restaurants and lively alleyways.
Hotel (exampel): Faro
Continue along the cycle path through the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The Lantern Sea is reflected in the salt lakes. In Olhão, take a coffee break at the lively market and observe the locals going about their daily business. Then continue to the fishing village of Fuseta with its characteristic white houses. In Santa Luzia, we suggest you visit Barril beach, where you'll find the well-known Anchor Cemetery, a memorial to a defunct tuna fishing chapter. Enjoy a good meal of typical Algarve cuisine, which is most famous for making octopus dishes. The stage ends at the Roman bridge in the center of Tavira. Today's bike ride ends at the venerable Roman bridge in the center of Tavira. Enjoy the evening in one of the most beautiful and distinctive towns in the Algarve.
Hotel (exampel): Hotel Maria Nova
Today, the Ria Formosa Natural Park with its 60 km long lagoon system is your companion. You'll cycle through the pine forest of Monte Gordo beach and the dune forest of Vila Real de Santo António to the Guadiane - the border river between Portugal and Spain. Follow the river north for a short distance before continuing over gentle hills, past orange and olive groves back towards Tavira. You can shorten the journey by taking the regional train back from Vila Real De Santo António or Castro Marim to Tavira, and bicycles can be taken on the train - tickets are available on site.
The area in and around Santa Luzia and Tavira offers an intriguing mix of interesting architecture, such as the seven-arched Roman bridge over the Gilhão River and no less than 37 churches in the town. Count them for yourself.
